01 Overview
Disabled But Not Really (“DBNR,” “we,” “our,” “us”) operates disabledbutnotreally.org and related programs. We respect your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over your information.
We collect the minimum we need to run the program, process your donation, and stay in touch. We do not sell your data. You can see, correct, or delete what we have on you at any time.
02 Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact details: name, email address, phone number, mailing address when you reach out, apply to a program, subscribe to the newsletter, or donate.
- Donation information: payment amount, method, and billing address. Payment card details are processed by our donation platform (Keela) and are not stored on our servers.
- Program application details: demographic, health, and disability information voluntarily shared when applying for the Help Me Fit Challenge. This data is used to evaluate your application and support your participation.
- Communications: messages you send us by email, phone, or social media.
Information we collect automatically
- Usage data: pages visited, time on site, referring website, general device and browser type.
- Approximate location: city/region derived from IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location.
- Cookies: small text files used to remember preferences and measure site performance. See Section 05.
03 How we use your information
- To run programs like the Help Me Fit Challenge and communicate with participants.
- To process and acknowledge donations, and send tax receipts.
- To send newsletters and program updates (you can unsubscribe anytime).
- To respond to your questions, partnership inquiries, and volunteer interest.
- To improve the website and understand which content is useful.
- To meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
We do not use your personal information to make automated decisions that significantly affect you.
04 Who we share it with
We share your information only with service providers who help us operate, and only for that purpose. These currently include:
- Keela — donor CRM and donation processing.
- Google Analytics — anonymized website analytics.
- Email delivery providers — for the newsletter and transactional emails.
- Program partners — when you apply to the Help Me Fit Challenge, relevant application data may be shared with adaptive trainers or clinical partners supporting your cohort.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent, trade, or share donor or participant lists with third parties for their marketing.
We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena, or court order, or when reasonably necessary to protect the safety of our community.
05 Cookies & analytics
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to make the site work and to understand how visitors use it.
- Essential cookies keep the site functional. These cannot be turned off.
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) tell us which pages are visited most, how long people stay, and where they came from. This data is aggregated and anonymized.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Doing so may limit some site functionality. We do not use cookies for cross-site advertising.
06 Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights. We honor these rights for all users, regardless of jurisdiction, because it’s the right thing to do.
- Access: ask what data we hold about you.
- Correction: update inaccurate or outdated information.
- Deletion: request that we delete your personal information, subject to legal record-keeping obligations.
- Opt-out: unsubscribe from newsletters or marketing communications anytime. Use the unsubscribe link in any email, or contact us directly.
- Portability: request a copy of your data in a common format.
- Do Not Sell/Share: we don’t sell your data. If this ever changes, you will have the right to opt out.

07 How we protect it
We take reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures to protect your information. These include encrypted data transmission (SSL/TLS), restricted access on a need-to-know basis, and reputable third-party processors for payments and CRM.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If a data breach ever affects your information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.
08 Children’s privacy
Our programs are designed for adults, and our website is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe your child has provided us with information, please contact us so we can delete it.
09 Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent version. If we make material changes, we will post a notice on the website or email registered contacts before the change takes effect.
